#19 Boise State Broncos
2012: 11-2 MWC WON LAS Vegas Bowl
Boise State wrapped up the season last year with a bowl win over Washington but since that time they have lost alot of talent. The one thing that stays consistent for the Broncos is head coach Chris Petersen. Petersen has delivered double digit wins for the past 7 season including 2 undefeated seasons.
The bright spot on this Boise offense is quarterback Joe Southwick. Southwick finally earned the starting job last season and threw for 2730 yards with 19 Td's and 7 interceptions. Boise returns 2 wide receivers from last season Matt Miller and Kirby Moore. They will need it with loss of running back D.J. Harper who had 16 total touchdowns in 2012. The only weak link on this offense is the line. The O-line only has 52 combined starts among the 5 big men.
Boise plays a 4-2-5 defense and will have to replace both starting linebackers from last season. The secondary is strong and they bring back their best defensive lineman in Demarcus Lawrence, who racked up 9.5 sacks last season.
The Broncos are looking to play in the first ever Mountain West Conference Game this season. They have a tougher schedule than last year but they have a senior quarterback and a great head coach. Their next game is against non-major Tennessee-Martin next Saturday on September 7th.
2012: 7-6 PAC-12 Lost the Las Vegas Bowl
Sankey had 205 rushing yards in the Las Vegas Bowl.
The Washington Huskies lost last year's Las Vegas on field goal with 1:16 left in the game. They were that close to winning their 2nd bowl in 3 years. A huge accomplishment for a team that was 0-12 in 2008. Head coach Steve Sarkasian has gone 7-6 the last 3 years and is looking to finally turn the corner and he just may have the roster to do it.
The Huskies bring back 10 starters on offense this season. QB Keith Price returns with 2 years of starts under his belt. Price has thrown for 5955 yards and 54 touchdowns in his college career. Bowl game MVP Bishop Stankey returns and he brings with hims his 1439 rushing yards along with 16 TD's. An experienced core of offensive linemen and wide receivers round out this offense.
The defense lost some key players from the secondary but the D-line is back and the linebacking core is back from a defense that was number 1 in the PAC-12 at holding opponents without a touchdown in the red zone (48%).
This Husky team is looking to win 8-9 games this year but they have a tough PAC-12 schedule ahead of them. They do have the talent to win some games that most people don't give them a chance to. The Huskies next play Saturday September 14th in Chicago against Illinois.
